What's New in This Version

Local Snapshots & Time Machine Backups — Complete Redesign

The “Utilities” section has been completely redesigned to unify the management of APFS local snapshots and Time Machine backups.

• Exclusive calculation of the private size of local snapshots and Time Machine backups
• Display of a snapshot’s actual size after mounting, via the “Browse” button
• Redesign and enhancement of the displayed information
• Fixed an issue with displaying the “purgeable” status of APFS local snapshots

Finder — Appearance Customization
In the “Appearance” tab, a new option allows for further customization of the Finder’s appearance:
• Adjust the radius of window corners
• Disable the Liquid Glass effect in sidebars

Settings — Miscellaneous
• Added an option to disable crash reporters (CrashReporter)

Security
• Added 6 new tests in the “Access Security” tab, bringing the total number of tests to 12
• Removed the “Bonjour” test and replaced it with a test of the Mac’s startup security level
• Improved Gatekeeper detection, with an indication of the selected security level
• Displays an informational message when a managed configuration (profile or MDM) is detected
• Significant optimization of diagnostics: the process now runs much faster and no longer requires a connection to Apple servers to retrieve the latest version of XProtect

XProtect Monitor — redesigned antimalware scanning module
The XProtect scanning module has been renamed “XProtect Monitor” and has undergone a major redesign:

• The malware list is dynamically updated at every launch to ensure data is always current
• A color-coded status indicator has been added for each malware entry, allowing you to view the status of each scan
• Support for the new “PlugInCanceled” status (status_code 30), indicating a temporary interruption of a background scan
• Code rewrite and optimization

Archives — ZIP and 7-Zip Header Inspection
Under “Utilities” > “Archives” > “Archive Information,” a new “Decode Header” button allows you to view the technical details of the ZIP and 7-Zip archive headers.

Hardware — New Information and Sensor Monitoring

• Added a “Model Number” section in the “Hardware” tab
• Added a colored badge in the “System” tab indicating the Mac’s thermal pressure status
• New sensor monitoring module: CPU, GPU, and battery temperatures, as well as fan speeds
• Measurements are displayed in a floating window with a real-time graph and the option to export to CSV format
• A button providing direct access to the monitoring module has been added to the “System” tab

Apps — hierarchical view

The various installed versions of macOS and their dependencies are now presented in a hierarchical format to make them easier to identify and read.

Donors Area — transition to secure management

• Implementation of a new authentication system: the unlock code received via email must be re-entered only once, upon the first launch following the update
• Addition of a “Make a Donation…” menu that opens a dialog box displaying the available donation methods: PayPal and Wero
• Complete update of the technical manual—over 100 pages in PDF format and available exclusively to donors—to reflect the latest changes

Improvements to the “Full Disk Access” Permission
• Upon first launch, the “Full Disk Access” permission check now occurs in real time. MicMac waits for the permission to be effectively granted before allowing access to the app.

New Management of APFS Snapshots and Time Machine Backups
The “Utilities” section has been completely redesigned to manage local APFS snapshots and Time Machine backups in a unified manner:
• One-click mounting of APFS snapshots and Time Machine backups to browse their contents directly in the Finder
• Individual deletion of Time Machine backups is now possible from within MicMac
• Display of Time Machine backup sizes once mounted
• “Purgeable” status for APFS snapshots to identify those that macOS can automatically delete if space runs low
• Expanded detection of third-party snapshots: Carbon Copy Cloner, TechTool Pro, ChronoSync, SuperDuper!, Acronis Cyber Protect, Arq Backup, Paragon Backup
• Security warning before mounting to inform the user about access to protected folders

New hardware information
• New “Connectivity” tab in the “Information” section: view detailed information about the ports, cables, and devices connected to your Mac
• Enhanced “Hardware” tab: extensive new information about the internal startup disk
• Motherboard serial number now displayed in the “Hardware” tab
• Screen tilt indicator in the “Display” tab: measures the tilt of a MacBook’s lid in degrees (detection may be intermittent on Apple Silicon M1 Macs)

“Apps” Section
• Dynamic sorting by clicking on column headers (including by date)
• Hierarchical view of installed macOS versions and their dependencies

Enhanced MicMac AppScope Module
Previously integrated under a different name, MicMac AppScope is now a standalone tool for in-depth analysis of your apps:
• Complete list of services requested, granted, or denied by each app
• Detailed internal information (identifier, signature, sandbox, etc.)
• Accessible via the context menu on any app

Various improvements
• Hash recalculation: new button to reset and generate a new hash
• The “Protections” tab has been moved to the “Security” section for better thematic consistency
• PDF exports: enhanced and more readable layout for hardware information reports
• The technical manual has been fully updated to reflect these changes (donors only)

Release Notes — Version 3.5 (March 26, 2026)

Storage and System Information
• The calculation of free space on the current volume has been improved (About > Storage).
• A new “Recoverable Space” (purgable) indicator displays the additional disk space that macOS can automatically free up when needed, at the cost of a possible performance degradation.
• The percentage displayed in the storage gauge now reflects used disk space rather than free space.
• The visual disk pressure indicator has been refined (About > Storage).
• Memory information has been expanded (About > Memory).
• The layout of PDF system information reports has been improved, particularly regarding headings and the indentation of tree-structured data.
File Compression
• Archive management has been completely redesigned and is now based on the libarchive library (v3.8.6)
• Support for ZIP, 7-Zip, and TAR formats.
• Pre-configured compression profiles have been added (Windows compatibility, etc.).
• A customizable whitelist protects important hidden files during compression (.gitignore, .env, etc.).
File Checksums (Hashes)
• Added MD4, SHA-3-384, and SHA-3-512 algorithms. The SHA-3-256 implementation has been rewritten.
• The CRC-32 algorithm now processes large files in blocks, improving the performance of checksum calculations.
• The names of hash algorithms are now displayed in accordance with the NIST FIPS standard.
• Fixed an issue where a hash algorithm returned an empty string.
System Maintenance and Cleanup
• A simulation mode now allows you to estimate the recoverable space before performing an actual cleanup.
• New module for cleaning caches of development tools (Xcode, Visual Studio Code, Homebrew).
• Support for cleaning caches of sandboxed applications.
• For security reasons, the cleanup of logs and downloads is now limited to older items.
• Sensitive data is automatically protected: password managers, Apple Keychain, SSH and GPG keys, certificates, VPN configurations, etc.
• Improved cleaning of Safari’s local storage (LocalStorage).
• Added Google Chrome detoxification: complete cleanup, removal of trackers, and reset of key identifiers.
• A detailed event log can now be displayed after each cleanup.
Showing and hiding Finder items
• Fixed the issue with hiding apps based on their source (third-party, Apple, or Mac App Store).
• The aperture image now reacts when you hover over an item.
Various improvements
• New tip: Move windows by clicking anywhere within their content (Settings > Miscellaneous).
• Fixed an issue preventing the cleaning switch status from being saved via the “Select/Deselect All” button.
• A new technical guide of nearly 70 pages available exclusively to donors.
• Various optimizations and bug fixes.

Finder
• Reorganization of features into two tabs (View and Actions) and code optimization
• Addition of an option (General tab) to display seconds in Finder windows in list view mode
• Added 3 keyboard shortcut options similar to Windows
• Improved the “Show User Library Folder” option in the “View” tab


Volumes (formerly “File System”)
• Renamed the “File System” tab to “Volumes” in Maintenance
• Volume verification can now be performed on any APFS volume on an internal or external disk, not just on the startup volume
• Volume verification commands can be displayed in French.
• Improved repair function for volumes with errors.

Applications
• Added display of applications that use the Electron framework and verification of the presence of the _CornerMask marker (causes significant system slowdowns).
• Added display of web applications (Web Apps)
• Application information (Apps tab) has an “Open” and “Show in Finder” context menu

Security
• New item added: “AirPlay receiver status”
• Improved “AirDrop status” item with a confirmation dialog box before deactivation
• Improved “XProtect status” item: update status added (slightly lengthens overall processing)
• Improved Security module: summary is displayed in the form of a colored frieze.

Interface and menu bar
• Created a module to finely manage the spacing between icons in the menu bar

Miscellaneous
• The Launchpad panel has been removed and replaced with a “Games” panel for managing controllers
• Safari: Addition of a new item: “Show full website address”
• Addition of the USB serial number of a USB boot volume (Information > Storage tab)
• Improvement and optimization of a large part of the code



Release Notes — Version 2.8.0 (October 6, 2025)

• Time Machine Verification
A new feature is available in the Time Machine tab (also accessible via Tools > Modules). Inspired by The Time Machine Mechanic (T2M2) by The Eclectic Light Company, it provides detailed information, in French, about Time Machine backups and snapshots for a given period.

• macOS Firewall Changes
With macOS 26 Tahoe, Apple has tightened firewall restrictions. Enabling it now requires administrator rights. The application therefore includes a built-in password prompt directly within the activation button.

• Startup Security (Firmware)
A new NVRAM verification indicator has been added under Information > System, allowing users to check firmware-level startup security.

• Launch Services Management
Following the removal of a parameter in macOS 26 Tahoe, the application code has been updated. The Launch Services repair function is still available under Maintenance > Care > Repair Launch Services.

• New Tahoe User Interface
The new visual elements introduced with macOS Tahoe have been integrated into the Appearance and Time Machine tabs.

• Improvements for Contributors
The random information window intended for future contributors has been redesigned. A new menu also allows entry of the unlock key reserved for contributors/donors.
