Release Notes
MicMac 4.1 (Release Notes — October 1, 2026)
Previous versions are no longer being developed. They remain available for download, but they won't receive any further updates.
If you're a MicMac donor, contact me to get the new detailed Technical Guide (over 100 pages, PDF format).
What's New in This Version:
This version includes the new features from version 4.0 for macOS 26 Tahoe, plus a few additional improvements.
Maintenance
- All maintenance functions have been completely rewritten for greater reliability and better compatibility with macOS 27.
- New function to reset the icon cache, useful if you run into problems (ghost or blank icons, for example).
- New function to repair the localized names of your personal folders (Documents, Downloads, Movies, Music, Pictures, etc.).
Security
- The "System Security" tab now displays its results faster.
- The "Access Security" tab includes 6 new security tests, bringing the total to 12.
Donor Area — Migration to Secure Management
- New authentication system: the unlock code you received by email must be entered once, the first time you launch the app after updating (contact me if you've lost your code).
- New "Make a Donation…" menu that opens a dialog showing the available payment methods (PayPal, Wero).
Miscellaneous Improvements
- On first launch, the "Full Disk Access" permission is now checked in real time: MicMac waits until the permission has actually been granted before giving you access to the app.
- New, modernized app icon.
- macOS upgrades: the app now lets you know when a version compatible with your system has been released. Donors can download it directly from within the app, along with the PDF user manual; other users are directed to the website.
- Minor bug fixes and optimizations.
- The Technical Guide (over 100 pages, PDF format, for donors only) has been completely updated to reflect these changes.
REGRESSIONS CAUSED BY macOS 27
XProtect Monitor
Apple no longer allows you to manually run an XProtect scan with XProtect Remediator 163 (whether intentionally or not; it could be a bug). Only the continuous automatic scans still work. An info button has been added to the XProtect Monitor module.
MicMac AppScope
Apple has removed direct access to the database (TCC) of permissions granted to apps. As a result, MicMac can't currently display the "granted" status of these permissions; only requested permissions remain visible. Apple is aware of this limitation (report FB24881945), and it should be resolved in an upcoming macOS update.
