Version 1.8 (May 20, 2026)

Major Changes

• Name change: MicMac Companion is now called “Companion”.
• The app is now fully bilingual (French / US English) with automatic system language detection
• New preferences window: menu icons, system sounds, language, keyboard shortcut, launch at startup

New Menu Items

- Empty Recent Folders (in Finder)

Improvements

• New global keyboard shortcut ⌃⌥C to open the menu from any application (can be disabled in Preferences)
• Native macOS system sounds played for certain actions: screenshot, empty Trash, eject disk, microphone (can be disabled in Preferences)
• Checkmarks now reflect the actual system status each time the menu is opened.
• Menu item labels and icons are fixed and consistent; icons can be hidden in preferences
• Improvements to the “Mute” and “Mute Microphone” functions: now use the native CoreAudio API (faster, no AppleScript)
• Improved “Quit Background Applications” feature: more reliable, no data loss, protects system processes
• Improved “Show / Hide Library Folder” feature
• The “Create Virtual Disk” feature is fully customizable (size, file system, name)
• Automatic check for updates available from the menu

(¹) Screenshots use the image format and save location defined in the macOS screenshot settings, which can be modified via MicMac.

Version 1.2 (November 23, 2023)

• UPDATE: Taking into account the change in appearance mode (Light/Dark) in real time (no need to restart the application)

• NEW: The application icon becomes adaptive (its color automatically adapts to the wallpaper)
